FAMILY SUPPORT FOR EATING DISORDERS AND ADDICTIONS

Are you struggling to cope with a loved one in distress?

Having a child or other family member with an eating disorder or addiction can be one of the most traumatic and difficult challenges you’ll ever face. You feel powerless against what seems like an insurmountable problem, particularly if your child or loved one is in denial. It’s a huge burden to shoulder on your own. Your days become consumed by a roller coaster of emotions, from hope to despair and back again, while she or he remains locked in a seemingly incurable mindset.

The good news is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Treating the often complex issues behind anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and drug, alcohol and sex dependencies can take time and patience, but perseverance usually wins out in the end. And in addition to professional client therapy eating disorders, one of the most positive steps you as a carer can take, both for your own and your loved one’s sake, is to enlist expert family support.

I Can Help You To Understand, Manage And Survive Your
Loved One’s Eating Disorder or Addiction

Parent and family support is usually vital to the recovery of an anorexia sufferer or addict. And since the process is rarely swift, professional support for you as a carer is highly beneficial in helping you to continue to effectively soldier on.

Having been through the eating disorder journey myself I understand completely what your child, partner or sibling is going through. And as a highly experienced a psychologist and psychotherapist I can give you insight into the underlying issues involved, and provide practical, expert advice on how to help someone with an eating disorder. No matter what stage your loved one is along the path to recovery.

How I can help you:

  • Eating disorders and addiction
  • The do’s and dont’s of managing and communicating with your child or family member
  • Nurturing and shoring up your relationships
  • And, very importantly, looking after your own mental and physical health.
How does our eating disorder support work?

At Sydney Recovery Counselling I believe in working closely with your family, so I encourage you to become involved in our designated therapy sessions. I never want your teenager to feel as though he or she is being excluded from treatment discussions, or talked about behind closed doors. I facilitate conversations in which both you and your child are present, so that we can all work together towards lasting success.

Addiction support for families and partners

I also provide expert support for parents and partners of those with drug & alcohol and sex & love addictions. Along with helping you to understand, cope with and manage your loved one’s disorder, I show you how to set boundaries – a vital step in supporting addiction recovery.

If your partner is alcohol or drug addicted I always recommend that you seek individual assistance and treatment , in addition to your therapy as a couple. With my extensive professional experience in this area I can offer you effective, non-judgmental counselling and a holistic approach, to help you beat the vicious cycle of substance abuse once and for all.
